Designers from the Japanese design firm Gung have developed Kaoiro, an emoticon stamp. Kaoiro means facial expression in Japanese. Users can configure a combination of oft-used symbols to stamp emoticons onto paper. [via]

Jelloware are disposable cups made entirely out of agar agar (a gelatinous substance derived from red algae) and cast in different flavors, such as lemon-basil, ginger-mint, or rosemary-beet, each specifically designed to compliment a corresponding drink, thus making it edible cups.

Jelloware is bio-degradable, so it can be thrown on to grass. Since it is made from seaweed extracts, it actually nurtures the growth of plants. Jelloware is create by a New York-based design consultancy, The Way We See The World.

Cultural geographers Peter Menzel and Faith D’Aluisio visited twenty-five families in twenty-one countries to create a collection of photographs of what people around the world eat in a typical week.

The Insect Hotel is the winner of the British Land (a British real estate company) architecture competition called Beyond the Hive for artists to come up with designs for urban habitats for insect species.

The competition was held in London and the winning design was from a London based architecture consulting firm, Arup Associates.

“The Insect Hotel”, a structure based on the Voronoi pattern, containing a series of compartments. A variety of material such as soil and deadfall, based on the individual needs of various insects, can be inserted into these compartments. The top of the Insect Hotel is designed to absorb rain water through planting while the sides allow easy access to butterflies and moths.
