Digital magazine motion cover

Following is an amazing demonstration put together by Alexx Henry and Directors Cory Strassburger and Ming Hsiung for a motion magazine cover and feature spread for Viv Mag, a digital magazine.

This is probably a great way for newspapers and magazines to monetize content on tablets like Apple iPad. Do check out the “making-of” video below.

Music map

The picture above is the outcome of an ambitious project, Going underground executed by The Guardian’s Culture Vulture blog. The idea was to plot the branches and connections of 100 years of music on a London-Tube-style route map. (London-Tube or the London Underground is a rapid transit system in the UK. It is usually referred to officially as ‘the Underground’ and colloquially as the Tube).

Each line represents a different genre, with the influential musicians in it as the stops. An impressive feat of musicology and cultural history.

You can find the high resolution blue print of the 20th century music culture here. [via]

* Project Status — sorry for the heavy censorship — you know how it is!
* Important Countdowns
* Revenue — comparing yesterday to the day before, not so insightful (yet).
* Live Tri-Met Bus Arrivals — when it’s time to go home!
* The Panic Calendar
* Employee Twitter Messages
* Any @Panic Twitter Messages

Foldaway Massage Chair

The Foldaway Massage Chair provides an invigorating leg and foot massage and folds to the size of a small stool.

The air cells along the sides of the foot wells inflate and deflate to deliver a kneading and compression massage that relieves sore, tight muscles in the calves and ankles. Finger-like nodes provide a deep-penetrating acupressure massage on the toes, arches, and soles of the feet. Air cells in the seat expand and contract to soothe pressure points in the lower back and buttocks and provide gentle stretching of the hips and waist. The chair has four 15-minute massage programs developed by a Japanese Shiatsu specialist, or you can focus the massage on a specific area and adjust the massage intensity using the foot well’s control panel.

Available for US $800 from hammacher. [via]

Comb over carpet

“Comb Over” is a carpet that takes inspiration from the comb-over hairdo commonly used by bald men. Designed by Meirav barzilay, the carpet clearly demonstrates as to how the beauty can be found in the blemishes of old age, which we tend to conceal. From covering yourself with the long strands or making a “ball” out of them to rest your head, you can use the carpet in various ways. Measuring about 120cm X165cm, this cool rug is gray color to gel well with any modish interior. [via]

Babyglow : Temperature sensing garments

Invented by UK based, Chris Ebejer, Babyglow garments change color with baby’s temperature - meaning they can tell parents when their child is getting too hot and help prevent catastrophic illnesses such as meningitis.

Babyglows come in pink, blue and pastel green, all of which turn white as soon as the baby’s temperature rises above 37c. Read more about Babyglow at dailymail.
